Orthopaedic Trauma Evaluation and Treatment

Severe, often life-threatening injuries require the precision and expertise offered by UMMC specialists at the state’s only Level 1 trauma hospital. Orthopaedic trauma specialists work with other physicians and support staff to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for patients with injuries involving more than one limb or organ system.

Acetabular and pelvic fracture and deformity

Patients benefit from the level of skill and experience offered by UMMC Orthopaedic specialists. Our specialists lead the state in frequency and complexity of acetabular (hip socket) fracture and pelvic ring injury treatments. Pelvic fractures sustained during a high-energy trauma, such as an auto accident or fall, may be life-threatening with extensive bleeding and internal organ damage.

Post-traumatic deformity treatment

UMMC Orthopaedics offers the state’s only care team specializing in non-healing fractures (nonunions) and crooked bones resulting from complex fractures. They are renowned for their innovations to surgically correct deformities resulting from misalignment of fractured bones as they heal.
